Chapter 7: The Codebreaker
The submission deadline was three minutes away.
"The key is too long for the field, Leo!" Dr. Ana Chavez exclaimed, pointing at the grant portal. "The standard verification box is only ten characters. This code is thirteen letters long—it can't be a simple password!"
Leo, the Materials Processing Technology student, felt the familiar high-pressure focus he used when troubleshooting a volatile reactor. This wasn't a chemical problem; it was a system compliance failure.
He quickly scrolled through the complex digital form's fine print. "I found it! The portal has a hidden field—it's disabled until all required documents are loaded! The field requires a 13-digit alphanumeric reference number to unlock the delegated signature portal!"
Mr. Vance rushed back in, slamming a single sheet of paper onto the table: the grower list. "I got the list! The farmers are ready!"
Leo quickly used his cell phone to digitize the PECG-approved grower list. He immediately uploaded the file to the MOU system. The submission page instantly refreshed, recognizing the final piece of documentation.
The screen immediately showed a full, digital confirmation and signature from the HDT, instantaneously committing the funds. The final screen was now unlocked: GRANT SUBMISSION FINALIZER.
Leo hit the last button.
A huge green confirmation box flashed across the screen: GRANT SUBMITTED. 3:59 PM.
Dr. Chavez, Mr. Vance, and Leo stood motionless, staring at the screen. They had solved the scientific riddle, the bureaucratic obstacle, and the digital compliance puzzle with just seconds to spare.
